Sign our petition to save our local high streets.
Ealing features many treasured high streets which are under threat due to the policies of the Labour Government nationally, especially the National Insurance rise and reduced business rate relief. The Ealing North Labour MP, James Murray, is a senior Treasury minister, who has played a key role in designing these destructive policies.
Much-loved local department store, Daniel of Ealing, closed earlier in the year, citing a challenging retail environment defined by rising rents, rates and costs - a situation government policies have compounded. Local cinema, The Ealing Project, closed in June, with the owners citing wider economic uncertainty. Across the borough, Ealing Conservatives have spoken with businesses which have reduced hiring, hairdressers working as freelancers and residents who have seen tax rises passed on through higher prices.
Enough is enough. As an Ealing MP, James Murray should be standing up for our borough. We, the undersigned, call on him to use his role in designing the forthcoming Budget to mitigate the impact of the Government's policies on local high streets, including through adopting the Conservative policy of abolishing business rates for high street shops.
