Cleveland Conservatives support the replacement of the Gurnell Leisure Centre but oppose the over-development of the site. The proposed new redevelopment will include over 600 high-rise high-density homes.
We have campaigned against building 17 storey tower blocks on a vulnerable flood plain which will change the character of our ward. We are concerned about the sheer number of cars likely to be generated by the 1,200 or so residents of these flats. Activists Liz, Isobel and Ian have asked local residents about the potential impacts on local streets. As a result they have been pushing for car parking at the ratio of one car parking space per flat to be provided by the developers—this should prevent a vast overflow of car parking in the Gurnell Grove and Avalon Road neighbourhood and limit the environmental damage caused by this huge development.
