A statement from the Ealing Conservatives on the Spending Review

The Ealing Conservatives are deeply disappointed by this anti-London spending review. London is the powerhouse of the UK economy, and we need to continue to support our great capital city.

We all know that our transport infrastructure is decaying, crime and anti-social behaviour rising, and housing becoming more unaffordable. All this under Labour administrations. The last thing Ealing – and London – needs is the Labour Government to choose to let London decline.

Let’s be clear, this is a political choice. It is a choice to level down London instead of levelling up the UK. We are particularly disappointed that one of Ealing’s own Labour MPs, James Murray, is a junior Minister in the Treasury which made this decision.

We will continue to campaign for more funding for London. More funding for our City means more funding for Ealing. It is an uphill battle: we have a Labour-run council, three Labour MPs, a Labour Greater London Assembly, a Labour Mayor, and a Labour Government. But fighting for fair funding is the right thing to do.

Ealing deserves better. Labour may not want to fund London so it can live up to its full potential, but we do.

The Ealing Conservatives will always be on your side.
